Day 286: Autumn Flame

No, I didn't pose this!  I found it as is at my granny's.  There were quite a few leaves stuck in the lavender but certainly this was the best one.  Isn't it cool when nature arranges things in a way you would only expect from a human touch?  My friend also pointed out that it looks like a flame, and the hole which is holding the leaf on the lavender has a look of having been burnt!

Day 284: Submerged Leaf

I like this.  It's not so often you'll hear me say that but I don't actually care if it's not pinpoint sharp - I just really like it.  I like the reflection in the water and all the highlights around the leaf and the colours.

Day 278: Love Autumn

I found this leaf in a garden centre and failed completely to check what tree it was from.  I love it though.  It is a beautiful shape and size (fits in the palm of my hand) and the colours are fantastic.  They make me think of liquid gold blood running through veins, or volcanoes, or fire - all sorts of wonderfully bright and colourful things.  I would love to preserve it but we shall see how that goes!  I am quite pleased with this picture - I had a battle on my hands getting the white balance and brightness as natural as possible as the camera insisted on making things either way too red or way too blue.  Eventually I hit on this and I'm not entirely sure what exposure, etc, I ended up with but it works.  I have to say I think there was luck in there too because what little sunlight there was left hit it just right.

Day 268: Wet Autumn

Well, it's that time of year where I admire the leaves a lot!  It was a kind of grey and rainy day and the leaves were providing a welcome splash of colour to the the world.  I particularly liked this yellow one with the very prominent veins, browning around the edges and hints of green still.  It's like every stage of the colour change in one leaf.

Day 260: Yellow Leaf

Our tree is losing it's leaves now.  They tend to be this yellowy colour rather than browns and oranges and reds.  I liked the light shining through this leaf and casting shadows of the grass on it.  I noticed the light because I was kneeling on the grass taking a photo of my rocket :-D  Me and my best friend made film canister rockets today and it was really good fun - I ended up crouched on the lawn trying to take photos of them going off and screaming and jumping instead... at a wee film canister popping... yes it was pretty pathetic.  It did make for a lot of giggling though :-D

Day 247: Autumnal Puddle

Run away day again!  This time we went to Peebles and wandered round the shops and ate ice cream.  Are you impressed that we went somewhere away from the seaside?!  We did still find ice cream though :-D  One of the things I find strange about myself, when I really think about it, is what I like looking at and taking photos of.  I took next to none and then when we got back to the car there was a very shallow puddle behind it with autumny leaves in it and I loved it.  The light and shadow and textures and bright points, where the sun is reflecting on the wet leaves, and the colours.  It's not quite right, I feel, but I can't quite place what I feel is wrong with it, possibly just a depth of field thing since the leaf in the foreground is a bit fuzzy.  Anyway, it's nice and it shows the start of Autumn which is definitely in progress now, from the cooler air and wind,
to the leaves and conkers.
Later on in the evening we toasted marshmallows (or well, I repeatedly burnt them because I wasn't paying attention!  Love the noise of a marshmallow on fire...) whilst watching In Bruges (strange, funny, weird, sweet and really sad - not what I was expecting - much better really - oh and has the best extra on the DVD - every swear word and mention of Bruges in the whole film - so funny!).  Point being, candles and fire and marshmallows on fire also make me think of Autumn and Winter :-)
